CORWEN 2

FC QUEENS PARK 1

MATCHES versus FC Queens Park have gone well for Corwen this season.

Although the campaign is only six weeks old, Danny Jellicoe's side claimed their third win over Queens Park, this time in the FAW Trophy.

Bizarrely, this weekend, there is to be a fourth meeting between the teams, this time in the Wrexham Area League Premier Division Cup.

The hosts had the better of the early exchanges and they opened the scoring after a quarter-of-an-hour.

From a 30-yard free kick, Sam Henry brilliantly placed an effort into the top corner of keeper Adam Roberts' net.

However, Corwen’s joy was short-lived though and it was level within two minutes.

Home keeper Dylan Jones made a low save, but he could only look on as FC Queens Park captain Michael Latham pounced on the loose ball and slotted it home.

The hosts went in search of a second goal after this and from Ryan Davidson's cross, Joe Williams headed just over the top.

Corwen did manage to regain the lead in the 24th minute.

Sam Henry concluded a lightning quick break with a fine finish.

On the back of this, the visitors enjoyed a spell of sustained pressure for five minutes, but they were unable to force a goal.

It could have been 3-1, with Sam Henry's diving header going just over the crossbar.

Corwen did have the ball in the net once again two minutes prior to the interval, however Sam Henry's strike was chalked off for offside.

At the other end, Dylan Jones was forced to make a good save from Latham.

The hosts made a bright start to the second half, with Sam Henry's low effort being gathered by Adam Roberts, while Kyle Jones angled shot ended up narrowly off target.

FC Queens Park threatened through Michael Latham, who was halted in his tracks by a great tackle from Corwen skipper Paul Jones.

Scott Evans and Joe Williams had further opportunities to put Corwen out of sight and with 12 minutes left, Williams' forced a good save out of Adam Roberts.

Aled Powell's shot from a tight angle went over the top for the visitors and in the 90th minute, Joe Williams was once again denied by Roberts.

While this wasn’t a swashbuckling performance from Corwen, they did enough to reach the third round.
