PRESTATYN ATHLETIC U-16s 6

DENBIGH TOWN U-15s 0

DENBIGH Town Rhinos U-15s crashed to a heavy opening day defeat at the hands of Prestatyn Athletic U-16s.

The Denbigh side went down 6-0 to their older opponents in this league opener.

Denbigh actually made an impressive start to the game, putting Prestatyn on the back foot and Finn McCoole caused the home defence problems in the air, while Gethin Rogers powered in from left back.

However, as soon as the hosts fired in after some neat build-up play on eight minutes, Denbigh never recovered.

Jake Jones did well to save a goalbound effort eight minutes later, but unfortunately the rebound fell kindly for an Athletic striker to make it 2-0.

Athletic added a fine third goal midway through the first half as Denbigh struggled to match Prestatyn's aggression, fitness and counter attacking play.

Jake Jones made further great saves, but he wasn't able to prevent three more Prestatyn goals from following, with Denbigh looking to be lacking that killer instinct in the final third.

This is a void vacated by last season's top goalscorer Zac Thomas.

Callum Jones and Lewis Bellis both enjoyed encouraging debuts for Denbigh, with the latter nearly marking his appearance with an assist.

His mazy run and cross was just intercepted ahead of the advancing Jake Roberts.
