BALA 18

WHILE it wasn't a win, there was a positive weekend for Bala in WRU League Division One (North) action.

On the back of three defeats to open their campaign, the men from Maes Gwyniad managed to secure a draw during their Saturday trip to Mold.

Both sides went into the contest targeting a first victory of the campaign and the respective teams will be happy to have ended their losing sequence.

"We had a few players missing again and we are scraping at the barrel at the moment," said Bala chairman Tony Parry.

"I think a draw was a fair result.

"They seemed a bit more structured than we did."

Bala crossed the Mold whitewash on three occasions over the course of the afternoon.

Rhydian Jones scored an early try for the visitors, while Bala's next score was secured by scrum half Llion Jones.

Also bagging a try for Bala was prop Mathew Befan, while the remaining points for the visitors were supplied by a penalty from the boot of Telor Edwards.

"Our front five are going well, but we are struggling in the backs," added Parry.

It turned out to be a terrific weekend from the perspective of Bala 2nds.

Visitors Rhyl 2nds turned up with 11 players, while the hosts only had 10 players at their disposal.

It was 10-a-side in the first half and the interval arrived with Bala holding a 57-0 advantage.

Although Rhyl had an extra man in the second half, they were unable to cross the Bala whitewash and the home side eventually ran out 105-0 winners.
