LLANELWY Athletic continue to set the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One pace after an emphatic 7-1 rout at Rhos United.

The title favourites have been in ruthless form to start the campaign, netting an astonishing 63 times in their opening nine games, conceding just seven in the process to give them a six-point advantage over Henllan having played a game more.

They wasted no time in stamping their authority on proceedings when James Burke opened the scoring after just three minutes, and things got even better soon after when Matty Lewis doubled their tally with ten gone.

The home side had a glimmer of hope on 20 minutes when Simon Owens converted a rare opportunity to half the deficit, but Burke restored the visitors’ two-goal cushion with another impressive finish a minute after the half hour mark.

Kevin Rickard extend their advantage further in first half stoppage time, and Frankie Hennigan got them off to a flyer after the break when he finished off another outstanding attack on 47 minutes.

This was swiftly followed by another from Burke, who stroked home for his hat-trick on 49 minutes, and the prolific forward capped off an incredible afternoon at the office with his fourth after 66 to complete the rout.

Athletic turn their attentions to JT (Charlie) Jones Presidents Cup first round action this Saturday when they host Machno United.
