LLANSANNAN assistant manager Tom Lewis lauded his side after they extended their lead at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division summit.

The early pacesetters showed their fighting spirit to come away with a 3-2 victory at title rivals Llanfairfechan Town, which gives them a five-point cushion over Saturday’s opponents ahead of their next league outing at Abergele on October 13.

Lewis, who was deputising for boss Gari Evans in the dugout, said: “I was absolutely delighted with the performance from the lads, not many teams will take points off Llanfairfechan this season, especially at their place, so to come back from 2-0 down to take all three points is a terrific achievement.

“The most pleasing thing is how many young players we had out there, who showed maturity beyond their years.”

Despite the eventual result it was the home side who began the stronger and they went ahead after just three minutes when Ellis Jones converted a chance, and the same player was on hand to double his advantage with his second of the afternoon after the break on 47.

This finally sparked the visitors into life, and they got themselves back into the game after 61 minutes when Gruff Roberts finished well, and things got even better soon after when Euros Lloyd levelled matters on 79 after a fine period of dominance.

With the game heading towards a stalemate, the exceptional Roberts turned the outcome on its head with a dramatic winner for the away side with four minutes remaining, and they managed to hold on in the face of sustained pressure in the closing stages to secure a vital three points.
