BALA TOWN 3

NEWTOWN 2

MAKE sure you play through to the final whistle.

That was the lesson from the weekend's spot of action for the Lakesiders.

Bala Town left it late in their Welsh Premier League clash with Newtown and it took a 95th minute strike for their winning home run to continue.

As Storm Callum battered North Wales, horrendous playing conditions welcomed the teams at Maes Tegid.

The first real chance came on 12 minutes when Steven Tames' header was superbly cleared off the line by Craig Williams.

Bala broke the deadlock after a quarter-of-an-hour.

A corner was floated in by Henry Jones and it arrived to an unmarked Chris Venables at the near post, who headed home.

There weren't many further opportunities in the first half, but Newtown did apply some pressure, with Mills-Evans heading over and a couple of teasing deliveries needed to be cleared by the hosts.

The second half couldn't have started in worse fashion for Bala.

Just two minutes after the restart, a clumsy tackle resulted in a penalty award and this was slotted home by Steve Leslie.

With Newtown continuing to press, Town number one Ashley Morris made an impressive one-handed save minutes later to deny Neil Mitchell.

The drama continues on the hour when Newtown were reduced to 10 men.

Williams received a second yellow card following a messy tackle on Sean Smith.

Still Newtown threatened, though, and a lob from Nick Rushton saw Morris called into action again to make a brilliant save.

This turned out to be crucial as Bala soon regained the lead.

The hosts were awarded a 73rd minute penalty when Nathan Burke was fouled in the area and Chris Venables bagged his second goal of the evening.

It was by no means game over and Newtown levelled things up with six minutes left.

Substitute Luke Boundford found the net via a back post header.

There always tends to be late drama in games between the clubs... and this contest was no different.

Deep into added on time, Henry Jones' shot took a slight touch off Kenton as it went into the net for a dramatic winner.
