A SUB-60 effort was needed to win last weekend's competition at Ruthin Pwllglas Golf Club.

There were a total of 61 players competing in the annual cancer charity medal event at the club over the weekend and it was won by Dafydd Lloyd Jones with an outstanding nett score of 58.

This was four strokes clear of Gareth Williams and Joe Jones, the respective winners in divisions one and two.

Result: Winner, Dafydd Lloyd Jones 78-20=58. Division 1: 1, Gareth Williams 70-8=62; 2, Michael Parton 73-10=63; 3, Graham Hardings 70-7=63. Division 2: 1, Joe Jones 82-20=62; 2, Phil Evans 80-16=64; 3, Neil Jones 84-20=64.

It was duos to the fore in midweek.

The midweek greensome stableford competition was won by the pairing of Janet Turner and Catherine Parton, who accumulated 37 points.

This was three clear of runners-up June Brady and Linda Cooledge, with Brenda Roberts and Wendy Roberts a further three points back in third place.
