Playing against more experienced teams from the surrounding areas, the Diamonds were undaunted when fa
ced with players twice their size and experience.

Team boss Fred Berry said: "As their manager I was more than proud of them, they have a fantastic attitude, and they listened intently to everything that was being asked of them.

"Other teams' managers were astounded at how well the Diamonds' played for a team who had never played football together before.

"It is important to me the players have fun and by the looks on their faces they surely did. And I ask all managers and teams in this area to partake in encouraging fun in the game at this level."

Fred added: "A big thank-you has to go to Bill Darwin and his team, for a wonderful job in putting such tournaments on.

"And to the parents who ferried and supported the team. Brilliant!"
