AN athlete has shown all-round skills to become a Welsh champ.
William Poole, 15, of Cynwyd, became the Welsh U-17 indoor combined events champion over the weekend.
The Ysgol y Berwyn student travelled to Sheffield to compete in the UK U-17 indoor combined events championship and in the heptathlon he racked up 3,313 points to finish seventh overall.
The competition also incorporated the Welsh championships.
William, a member of Wrexham Athletics Club for 18 months, began the competition with a time of 7.89 seconds in the 60m sprint, and followed this with a 5.41m long jump leap.
Further efforts of 9.70m and 1.59m came in the shot and high jump respectively, while his time in the 60m hurdles was 9.85 seconds.
William cleared 2.31m in the pole vault and clocked 3.10.81 in the 1000m.
Blade Ashby of Herne Hill Harriers was the overall winner.
