A MAJOR revamp aims to put Ruthin back at the top of the North Wales rugby scene.

A disappointing campaign has seen Ruthin finish outside the top-four of SWALEC League Division One, while the Blues failed to make it beyond the quarter-finals of the North Wales Cup.

As a result, Ruthin will utilise a four-man coaching and managerial set-up from next season in an exciting development.

Former fly-half John Tudor takes over as head coach from Jim Lyle, with Paul Threlfall assisting him, while Gareth Threlfall is first team manager.

In addition Russell Penrhyn-Jones returns to Cae Ddol to take up his role as director of rugby.

“Ruthin has lost its way over the last season and I am keen to bring in some big changes,” said Penrhyn-Jones.

“We are a team within a team and all realise that this can be a very lonely job on your own.

“The team will consist of very experienced rugby personnel who have played at a decent level and understand the management required, however we have lost several years and do see this as a rebuilding.”

The new director of rugby stressed that any success will take time to emerge and he added: “This is not an overnight thing. We have a lot of work to do in getting this right.

“It may take two-to-three years to get it how we want it.”

*Ruthin’s 2nds concluded their season on a bright note by retaining the Clwyd Cup.

Sam Higgitt’s side defeated Wrexham 2nds 21-6 in the Cae Ddol-staged final.

Gethin Hughes scored one of the Ruthin tries, while Shay Tudor was in fine form with the boot.
