PONTBLYDDYN 170
ST ASAPH 85
(Pontblyddyn won 22-4)
OUT-of-form St Asaph couldn’t shake off that losing feeling as they came off second best in their Premier Division trip to Pontblyddyn.
The Saints’ third loss in a row arrived with an 85-run deficit, but a spirited comeback in the field had given the Denbighshire side hope of a positive result.
Visiting skipper Dave North called correctly at the toss and decided he quite fancied spending the opening portion of the afternoon in the field.
Wickets from North and Andrew Bellis reduced the home side to 36-2, but a fine partnership between all-rounder Glenn Chambers and Angus Reckord had Pontblyddyn back in the box seat.
Chambers led the way with 44, while Reckord was also in form to score 41 as the pair compiled a third-wicket stand of 85.
Both were eventually dismissed by spinner Chris Campbell, who along with Bellis instigated a St Asaph recovery.
From being in control at 121-2, the hosts were soon in a spot of bother as Campbell (4-51) and Bellis (3-30) reduced them to 136-8.
Trevor Bauer and Dave North (2-32) mopped up the innings - and St Asaph had a victory target of 171.
They never got close as Glenn Chambers followed up his batting contribution with a fine bowling display.
Chambers took 4-31 from his 15-over stint as the Saints slipped from 20-0 to 40-5.
William Ryan (17) and Andrew Bellis (13) were the only two batsmen into double figures but those knocks proved to be in vain when the end came at 85 all out.
