IT’S a big weekend all round on the football front.
Chasing a first Welsh Premier League victory of the season, Bala Town could not face a bigger task than the one they have on Sunday.
Team boss Colin Caton takes his side to Oswestry where Bala must tackle the all-conquering The New Saints.
The Saints were last season’s double winners, claiming the Welsh Premier League title and the Loosemores League Cup crown in a memorable campaign.
However, Bala will have good memories of their previous visit to Park Hall when they held the Saints to a goalless draw last season.
Keeper Leon Bimpson made three stunning late saves from Steve Abbott, Jamie Wood and Tommy Holmes to keep Bala on level terms.
Before taking on Bala, The New Saints meet CSKA Sofia tonight (Thursday) in their UEFA Europa League play-off second leg tie.
Knockout action also marks this week with the second instalment of this season’s Welsh Cup offering.
The pick of the local ties in the second qualifying round is at Cae Nant when Elfed Lloyd’s Llandyrnog United have home advantage versus Derek Booth’s Llangollen Town.
Denbigh Town face a tricky tie at fellow Welsh Alliance outfit Conwy United, who lost out to John James’ side in the league on the first day of the season, while in the remaining local tie Neil Jones’ Corwen play host to Dolgellau.
