CORWEN A played Cynwyd for the third time this season, having already played their local rivals in the Oswestry League and League Cup.

With Corwen having won both of the previous encounters, Cynwyd were keen to gain some revenge on their home green and could not have wished for a better start.

Cynwyd won the first four games in the first half to take a commanding lead.

Corwen, however, took the second half and thanks to a couple of single-figure wins they also took the aggregate for a 5-5 draw.

Match results (Corwen names first): Brian Edwards 19 Eleri Jones 21, Gary Hope 16 Phil Jones 21, Adrian Roberts 18 Colin Jones 21, John Wilson 11 Jeff Wheeler 21, Carl Green 21 Martin Bodden 12, Peter Aldridge 21 Dei Williams 5, Phil Roberts 19 Phil W Jones 21, Nigel Roberts 21 Joan Jones 9. Aggregate: Cynwyd 131 Corwen 146

The A team were too strong for Chirk B in the Oswestry League Doubles, winning all four games to move into the second round.

The B team, however, were not entered for the doubles, but travelled to Royston A in the league.

The heavens opened soon after the match began and after some close games and a few soakings, fell to a creditable 7-3 defeat.

Gareth Jones (21-11), Clarissa Roberts (21-12) and Stan Wheeler (21-17) were the three winners.
