WHAT a way to cement your spot at the top of the Cymru Alliance.

Bala Town weren't at their best seven days earlier in drawing at Holyhead, but played well in defeating Ruthin Town on Wednesday.

That set up this astonishing display as Colin Caton's men returned from Llanfairpwll having recorded their biggest ever win in the Alliance with an incredible eight-goal haul over the shell-shocked islanders – and Bala sit proudly on top of the league after the first five matches.

Playing on the hosts' new venue for the first time, Bala took an early lead after only seven minutes when a superb passing movement between Gethin Lloyd and Alec Stacey put Craig Papirnyk through to fire a low shot past the keeper.

The lead was doubled on 14 minutes when a Steve Fisher cross was met at the far post by Gary Penlington who looped a header over the keeper.

Bala were in complete control of the game and Papirnyk went close with a volley before Wes Brereton extended the lead on 23 minutes with a daring run and shot from 20 yards.

Papirnyk then again narrowly shot wide and Penlington had a volley cleared off the line.

Two more chances were narrowly missed by Papirnyk and Penlington before the interval.

The second half was a similar story of one-way traffic and goals came at regular interval against a demoralised home side.

Marc Griffiths had replaced the injured Craig Papirnyk at half time and boosted his confidence by netting a second half hat-trick.

Griffiths' first on 50 minutes came courtesy of an excellent header from Tommy Harrison which was well saved only for Marc to fire home the rebound.

His second on 73 minutes was a fierce left-foot shot from the edge of the area and the hat-trick was completed on 90 minutes when he fired home from close-range.

In between Penlington scored his second, sliding the ball past the keeper after a fine head on by Marc Griffiths and Llion Roberts scrambled the ball home after a double rebound left him with an open goal.

This was a superb all-round performance which will send shivers through the opposition in the Cymru Alliance.

*Bala: Bimpson, Hignett, S Fisher, Harrison, Ll Roberts, Stacey, Cunnah, Papirnyk, Penlington, Brereton, Lloyd.

BALA Town Reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the Wrexham Area League season with their 2-2 draw against Hawarden Rangers Reserves.
Owain Williams and Riki Rowlands were on target for Bala.
