Higgitt, alongside Gavin Evans, is expected to be handed a starting spot in the Scarlets' first match of the season, at Ulster.

Scarlets' star centre Regan King is out of action for the first month of the Magners League season with a hamstring injury.

This rules King out of the Scarlets' first Welsh derby – at the Dragons on September 10 – plus forthcoming league games against Connacht, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Also out with a hamstring injury in Wales U-20 centre Jonathan Davies, which means that Higgitt and Gavin Evans are set to link up in the Scarlets midfield at Ravenhill.

It was announced in March that Higgitt would be moving to Stradey Park after spending five years with Guinness Premiership club Bristol.

At the time Higgitt said: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with Bristol Rugby and it will be a strange feeling at the end of the season when I leave for the last time.

"However, people will know that I'm a proud Welshman and the opportunity to play over in Wales was something that I couldn't really turn down."

Higgitt was a solid presence for the Scarlets in Friday night's impressive 20-17 friendly win over London Wasps and the Ruthin centre also made his mark in the first friendly, scoring a try in the defeat to Bath.

Kick off for the Ulster-Scarlets meeting tomorrow is 7.30pm.

n Rugby fans throughout the region have been given the opportunity of sponsoring their favourite Scarlet.

In a new initiative, every Scarlet player and member of the coaching staff has had a price put on his head.

"We felt that by giving each player their own individual price, we would be able to give more potential fans and sponsors an opportunity to support their favourite player," explained sponsors liaison officer Leyton Williams.
