Caeau Les Phillips will host the division's match of the day as Dinbych entertain local rivals and North Wales Cup holders Ruthin.

Familiar opponents also await Bala as they prepare for Saturday's opener at home to old foes Nant Conwy. Kick off in both matches is 2.30pm.

Dinbych skipper Iwan "Ffrith" Roberts has called for the club to aim high over the coming season.

"Pre-season has been going well," said experienced hooker Roberts.

"Mark Lewin has been taking fitness training on Thursdays and numbers have been good. It's just a shame we haven't had many games."

Youngsters such as James Rowse and John O'Shea have shone for Dinbych in pre-season, while the older heads of Llion Edwards, Tino Rizzi, Sion Edwards and Tony Jones are all raring to go.

But Rhodri Sellers is out injured, having broken a bone in his hand.

A good run in the cup and a top-four league finish is the captain's target for the season and he added: "We have got to think about stepping it up now – we have been in the division for a few years."

Ruthin skipper Joe Palmer is also looking forward to getting under way and he said: "Denbigh away is a great way to start the season."

Two good wins in pre-season look to have set Ruthin up nicely for the rigors ahead and apart from a couple of additions, it's a similar squad at Cae Ddol to last season.

Palmer added: "The capabilities are there, but it's on the day.

"I have heard a lot of good things about how they (Dinbych) have been training this year, which is good for rugby in Denbighshire, but it's always nice to put one over your local rivals."
