ST ASAPH 160
BRYMBO 257-5D
(Brymbo won by 97 runs)

DOMINANT Brymbo maintained their brilliant Premier Division run with a big win at strugglers St Asaph.

The Saints remain firmly at the foot of the table following this 97-run reverse and they now have just seven games remaining to save their Premier Division status.

Brymbo won the toss and elected to bat first, a great decision as it turned out as they proceeded to dominate the hosts' bowling attack.

Opener and captain Dafydd Rhys was still there when the Brymbo declaration arrived, hitting a majestic 142 not out from a team effort of 257-5.

The main support came from number four David Lloyd with an assured 75, while the only St Asaph bowler to claim any reward was Matthew Hulse with four wickets.

The Saints needed a good start to their reply, but they didn't get it as opener Rob Hooper and number three Paul Fleming were both dismissed cheaply.

Opener Richard Arun and Aussie Geovanni De Bartolo attempted a recovery, with Arun (64) hitting a half-century for the second weekend running, while De Bartolo added 30 to the cause.

But when both fell to ex-Ruthin Rugby Club coach Russ Penrhyn-Jones, the writing was on the wall.

Gareth Jones scored 24, but it wasn't enough to stop the hosts from slipping to 160 all out for their ninth loss of the summer.
