SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.CAERWYS (2008: 8th)EIGHTH place was a disappointing finish for Caerwys from a season that had initially
promised so much.
After 10 games, Caerwys were just three points off the pace being set by Ysceifiog.
However, a record of just two wins in their final 12 matches meant that Richie Roberts' side dropped from a high of third to end up in the bottom half - and finish almost 30 points behind their Flintshire rivals.
On their day, Caerwys are a match for anyone in the league and a major tilt at the Shield demonstrated this.
But after scoring 13 in three ties up to the semi-finals, Caerwys ran dry to be knocked out at the last-four stage by Llangynhafal.
There's more to come from this team, though, and if they can stay the pace in 2009 then silverware could follow.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.CEFN (2008: 7th)THERE is never a dull moment when Cefn take to the field!
The Summer League entertainers were at it yet again this season after a relatively quiet start to the campaign.
They showed just how good they could be with an impressive league double over runners-up Llanrhaeadr, plus an 8-3 thrashing of Shield finalists Llangynhafal.
But, at the other end of the scale, Cefn's inability to mount a title push came down to their inconsistency.
Henllan's single away victory this season came at Cefn, who also dropped home points against Trefnant and took one point from a possible six against Rhewl.
Cefn, however, have unearthed a real find in youngster Jake Walker.
The teenage prodigy scored in eight consecutive matches during the course of the season, on his way to a fine haul of 12 goals to comfortably finish in the top 10 of the top scorers' chart.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.CLAWDDNEWYDD (2008: 6th)IT was always going to be a tough ask for Clawddnewydd to repeat their heroics of 2007 12 months on.
Even before the season had kicked off, Clawdd's championship-winning boss Mark Lewis was writing off his side's chances of another title tilt.
This prediction looked like a spot of Lewis kidology when Clawdd found themselves as high as third after just two losses in their first eight games, but that was to be the high point of their league campaign as a run of six losses in a row pushed them down the table.
As with Caerwys and Cefn, though, Clawdd are a dangerous side on their day and they pushed new champions Ysceifiog close away from home, losing just 2-1, and they hit top form to thrash Llandyrnog 5-0 at Cae Nant.
But there were also bad days, most notable from home defeats versus Ysceifiog (6-2) and Llanrhaeadr (7-4).
A major positive was the 20-goal scoring feat from talented winger Llion Jones this season and a run to the semi-finals of the Shield will also breed a bit of confidence.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.HENLLAN (2008: 11th)HENLLAN timed it to perfection to make the step up from 12th place!
For most of the summer the side from Top Park looked to be odds-on certainties to finish up in last place, especially after opening the season with nine straight losses.
But an improved second half to the season saw Henllan chiseling away at the gap between themselves and Trefnant.
And victory in their penultimate league game - a 4-1 scoreline against Llandyrnog - moved Henllan off the bottom for the first time since the fifth game of the summer!
Henllan had two problems over the course of the season - a lack of goals and an inability to hold on to leads.
They partly rectified the first, after scoring just eight times during the first half of the season.
Henllan doubled this with 16 goals in the next 11 games, most of them coming from Kevin Davies, who finished up with an impressive 10 goals.
However, they didn't fix their second problem and building on a lead is something to work on before 2009.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.LLANDYRNOG (2008: 9th)A LEGEND was born when Idris Parry became the first Llandyrnog player to score a hat-trick in two years.
Parry's treble against Rhewl - which wrapped up a 4-1 win - was one of the Llandyrnog highlights of 2008 and was the club's first hat-trick since Chris Williams scored three in the 6-4 defeat at Cefn in 2006!
On the whole, the season was an improvement on 12 months earlier, when Llandyrnog ended up bottom.
They were only a point better off this time around, but Llandyrnog proved themselves a dangerous side.
They were three minutes away from picking up a brilliant point at Ysceifiog, while Llandyrnog also impressed in putting five past early-season championship challengers Llanfair.
But when the Shield came around, Llandyrnog gave a disappointing showing as they meekly went out to Llanfair.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.LLANFAIR (2008: 5th)ON May 27 Llanfair entertained Ysceifiog in the Summer League's biggest match of the season to date.
This was to be the final match of the first half of the season and at that stage the destination of the title was still anybody's guess.
Ysceifiog led the way with 24 points, but Llanfair were just a point back and victory in the game would have seen Roger Beech's side sitting pretty as league leaders at the halfway stage.
Unfortunately for Llanfair, Ysceifiog won it 3-1 and Beech's charges would not figure in the title picture again after that.
Llanfair won just four out of 11 during the second half of the season and their away form, which was initially impressive, hit the skids.
They won all of their first six away games, but Llanfair then lost the next five on their travels as they slipped down to finish up in fifth place.
Llanfair were unlucky that a difficult Shield draw put paid to their hopes of silverware after the league was completed and although they won at Llandyrnog, Llanfair suffered an expected first round loss at double-chasing Ysceifiog.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.LLANGYNHAFAL (2008: 4th)KNOCKOUT specialists Llangynhafal failed to build on their promising 2007 league campaign a year on.
Last time out the Rhewl-based side ended up as runners-up, just three points behind champions Clawddnewydd, but despite a promising run of form around the halfway point of the season, an inconsistent second half of the summer put paid to their title tilt.
Five consecutive wins had put Llangynhafal in contention by the halfway stage, but a 3-1 defeat at Ysceifiog saw Martin Dyer's side fall six points off the pace and they were never to get as close to the Flintshire flyers again.
The low point came with a heavy 8-3 defeat at Cefn, but revenge was sweet in the Shield when Llangynhafal travelled to Cefn again - and this time came away with a battling 2-1 victory.
It has been in the Shield where Llangynhafal have shown their true mettle, with the Cefn success being followed by victory at Nantglyn, while the slender 1-0 win over Caerwys saw them through to a second consecutive Shield final spot.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.LLANRHAEADR (2008: Runners-up)LLANRHAEADR secured their joint-best finish since winning the league in 2004, but the season could have been even better for Arfon Griffiths' side.
Still with a young squad, Llanrhaeadr should be a force to be reckoned with over the coming few seasons, as the likes of Sion Davies and Gareth Roberts mature.
But a number of surprise slip-ups did cost the side over the course of the season and meant Llanrhaeadr finished a distant 13 points behind new champs Ysceifiog.
The goalless draw with Trefnant is a case in point, as the result came hot on the heels of Llan's brilliant win at Ysceifiog.
A win over Trefnant would have put Llanrhaeadr within just two points of the leaders, but it wasn't to be.
Llanrhaeadr's results against other high-flyers were good, though, with just two defeats from the eight games against Ysceifiog, Nantglyn, Llangynhafal and Llanfair.
And another positive was three players getting into double figures on the scoring front- Chris Williams (19), Gareth Roberts (11) and Sion Davies (10).

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.NANTGLYN (2008: 3rd)COMEBACK kings Nantglyn just didn't know when they were beaten in 2008.
Countless times they came back from a couple of goals down to claim brilliant wins, most notably when a closing 20-minute spurt helped them see off Ysceifiog 3-2.
It happened both ways, though, as they lost a two-goal lead against high-flying rivals Llanrhaeadr in the first half of the season - and their failure to beat Llanrhaeadr meant Nantglyn had to be satisfied with a third-placed finish instead of ending up as runners-up.
This was their best showing since winning the league two seasons ago, but Nantglyn will be disappointed not to have made an impact in the Shield having lost out at home to Llangynhafal.
Positives outweigh the negatives from the season, though, and their record of just three away defeats in 11 games was excellent.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.RHEWL (2008: 10th)ONE place better off than 2007, but two points down from their previous tally - that was the final story of a rollercoaster season for Rhewl.
Boss Elfed Lloyd spent much of the season stressing the need for players to cut down on the amount of individual errors and there was plenty of promise from what is still a young squad.
Striker Ian Williams just improves year-on-year and the Ruthin Town U-16s striker bagged a personal best 10 Summer League goals this season.
And Rhewl also caused a worry or two for the league's leading lights during the course of the season.
Late in the campaign Rhewl held an early two-goal lead at Ysceifiog before their hosts recovered to win 5-2, while only a late Chris Williams free kick denied them a point at home to Llanrhaeadr.
But Rhewl's most memorable games came against Caerwys.
In the league game at home to Richie Roberts' side Rhewl threw away a three-goal lead to lose 4-3, while hopes of making a Shield impact were ended with a 6-0 preliminary round thumping at Caerwys.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.TREFNANT (2008: 12th)IT was a season of struggle for Trefnant as they just lost out to Henllan in the battle to avoid the wooden spoon.
Just two wins from 22 games meant that they probably deserved their lowly rating, while a record of 26 goals scored was always going to make it a tough two-and-a-half months.
But Trefnant are by no means the worst team to grace the Summer League - and their defensive displays over the course of the season earned plenty of rave reviews.
Apart from letting in eight at home to the new champions, Trefnant were competitive in the remainder of their matches and the goalless draw at Llanrhaeadr shows Trefnant's undoubted determination.
Gavin Roberts ended the season on a high with a number of goals to top the club scoring charts, while Steffan Tomos scored a hat-trick against Caerwys, so the promise of goals is there.
And another positive was the fact that Trefnant completed a league double over Henllan.

SEND US YOUR VIEWS AND COMMENTS BELOW.YSCEIFIOG (2008: Champions)LET'S start with the negative aspects of Ysceifiog's season - they lost to Nantglyn and Llanrhaeadr.
Unfortunately for the rest of the league, those were the only disappointments for Pete Jones and Geraint Bellingham's charges as they swaggered to a memorable first Summer League title.
The statistics make hugely impressive reading. Ysceifiog won 60 points out of a possible 66, scoring more goals than anybody else (79) and boasted the league's most miserly defence, with just 29 goals conceded.
And in frontman Dave Holloway, Ysceifiog had a 41-goal machine who scored more goals in 2008 than Rhewl (35), Llandyrnog (32), Trefnant (26) and Henllan (23).
Their form in the second half of the season was just phenomenal. Eleven wins out of 11 to finish the league campaign meant that none of their nearest rivals had even a sniff of forging a championship push themselves.
You could argue that this is the best Summer League team since Llandyrnog's golden period between the mid 70s and 80s - and if this Ysceifiog side can stick together, there's lots more silverware to be had.
