CORWEN battled hard at Marchwiel to pick up eight crucial points in their battle to avoid the Division One drop.
On an overcast but warm afternoon Corwen won the toss and asked Marchwiel Wrexham to bat.
Corwen could not have wished for a better start as Josh Maynard bowled Mike Forgrave for a duck in his first over.
The in-form Maynard then trapped dangerous South African Mario Swart leg before and suddenly Marchwiel Wrexham were struggling on 8-2.
George Forgrave and James Hughes batted well to put on a partnership of 53 with Forgrave the first to fall, caught by Jason Jones off the bowling of Simon Harrison.
Hughes fell six overs later when he was bowled for 48 by Llyr Jones and Nick Husbands was well caught by Matthew Duckworth.
In the meantime Tim Newhouse was accumulating runs but he was caught for 31 off Harrison.
Neither Harrison (3-35) nor Maynard (4-27) were finished yet with the former trapping Bellis leg before and Maynard bowled both Anthony Morris and Luke Davies.
Jason Jones was bowling well at the death and deserved his success when he had Matthew Lewis caught by Duckworth for 12.
Corwen were pleased with holding Marchwiel to 145 and were relatively confident that they could chase this score down.
Kevin Sharp and Duncan Roberts started well but in the ninth over Sharp was out for 11.
Duckworth and Roberts stabilised the innings and put on 30 before Duckworth was bowled for 18.
Roberts fell for 15 and Swygart went cheaply, which began a mini collapse.
Maynard was caught behind and Simon Harrison was needlessly run out.
Jason Jones and Aldridge put on 23 before Jones was caught and Aldridge followed shortly afterwards when he was well caught for 23. Carl Green joined John Wildman at the crease with the first target being to get Corwen passed 100 without losing a wicket.
Things looked dire for Corwen as there were still 11 overs to go and although Wildman has shown an excellent aptitude for batting for long periods of time Carl Green has sometimes shown a more fragile technique.
However, both of these Corwen batsmen were rock solid in their play and put on a further 20 runs to take Corwen to 116-9 and a valuable eight points in their quest to avoid relegation.
