IT was a day of celebration at Maes Tegid on Saturday to mark Stephen Fisher’s 12 years at Bala Town.

In a testimonial to the long-serving figure, the Lakesiders took on Gwynedd rivals Caernarfon Town.

After a guard of honour and presentation ahead of the kick-off, attention turned to the game.

Bala handed a debut to new signing Andrai Jones, with Josh Jones and Tom Mann from the U-19s both being named on the bench for the first time.

The home Town could not have asked for a better start and a corner from Nathan Burke was swung in deep towards the far post for new boy Jones to poke the ball home after only two minutes of play.

Not even five minutes had elapsed when Bala doubled their lead.

Great work on the wing by Trialist A allowed Hayes to deliver the ball into the box.

Andrai Jones brought down with a header and Les Davies swung his foot around the loose ball to make it 2-0.

Bala were confident in attack and they looked very sharp.

In further action, Trialist A saw his goalbound header being cleared off the line, before Burke pulled his shot wide of the upright.

Caernarfon managed to settle and they started to test themselves, with one of their midfield trialists blazing over the crossbar in their best effort of the half.

The Lakesiders were dominating the chances, though, and a great ball from Burke found Davies, who hit the ball first time, but it curled narrowly wide.

Soon after, a low Burke drive was saved by the Caernarfon goalkeeper.

Bala did add their third midway through the first half.

The move began when fantastic ball from Will Bell picked out Hayes on the wing.

He was crossed in first time for a perfectly timed header by Andrai Jones to find the bottom corner of the net.

Before the interval, Bell and Hayes combined again and this led to Davies blazing over from eight yards when he could have made it 4-0.

Bala started the second half well by adding another goal to their tally.

Trialist B’s stunning strike rattled the crossbar and came back out to Hayes, who headed home to make it 4-0.

Stephen Fisher then came on to replace Trialist A and play the remainder of the half.

Bala’s chances kept coming, with Davies headed wide from Burke’s corner, while a free kick by Stephens was deflected wide for a corner and a shot from Jones was saved by the goalkeeper.

At the other end, Caernarfon hit the base of the post from close range, before they grabbed a goal themselves.

A looping back post header from Gareth Edwards found the back of the net after an hour of play.

Bala looked to add to their tally and a brilliant through ball from Fisher saw Hayes break into the box, but his shot smashed back out off the base of the post.

Soon after, a daisycutter by Burke from the edge of the 18-yard box fizzed past the post.

With a few minutes left to play, Mann and Josh Jones came on for their debuts and they did well in the closing stages.

Another goal was coming and it arrived in injury time.

Fisher handled the ball to concede a penalty and Nathan Craig stepped up to poke the spot kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net to make it 4-2.
