WHILE a runners-up finish is now out of reach, Bala Town won't just be going through the motions between now and the end of the season.

A fine recent run means that Connah's Quay are in the box seat to finish second in the JD Welsh Premier League standings, although Bangor City are also well in the mix to claim that runners-up berth.

From the perspective of the Lakesiders, they are guaranteed to finish fourth, but team boss Colin Caton is keen for his team to pick up a win or two heading into the end-of-season play-offs.

"We are in the play-offs and we can't really finish any higher or lower," said Caton.

"But, every game we play is important."

A potential complication is the fact that Connah's Quay and Bangor City have yet to secure a domestic or European licence from the FAW.

Bala achieved both at the first time of asking and their two high-flying rivals will have to wait for the decision following an appeals body meeting in Cardiff on April 26.

"Teams above us haven't got the domestic licence," added Caton.

"If they don't get a licence then obviously we will move up places.

"To be fair to our club, we have always got the domestic licence at the first attempt.

"It's been difficult to compete with Bangor and Connah's Quay, with them both being full time.

"Injuries have cost us massively this season.

"Instead of ones and twos, we have had sevens and eights out this season, which is unbelievable."

Bala's final away game of the regular season is at Cardiff Met this Saturday.

Andrei Jones will be out for the rest of the season after an injury he picked up following a collision with Les Davies during the March meeting with Cefn Druids.

Jones has since undergone plastic surgery on his facial injury.

Striker Davies was unavailable for last weekend's loss versus The New Saints, but Bala hope he will be available for Saturday's trip south.
