FIRST class cricket will be returning to Colwyn Bay next year.
Glamorgan County Cricket Club will once again be returning to the area, where they will take on Lancashire in a four-day match in County Championship Division Two starting on Sunday, July 19.
Brian Hughes, chairman at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club, said: “This is great news for the club and we are thrilled that we are able to host such a high profile fixture.
“The annual Glamorgan visit has become one of the most prominent fixtures in the Conwy summer sporting calendar, and having such a high profile team coming to the area is good news for not just ourselves, but businesses in the area and the economy in general.”
A meeting has been arranged for early January between club officials, Conwy County Council and representatives from Glamorgan to finalise plans for the four-day game.
In addition, Mr Hughes also revealed that a three-year deal has been agreed with Glamorgan to play one game at the Penrhyn Avenue ground per summer.
“To have them come here for a further three years just shows how successful the visits have been,” added Mr Hughes.
“Things have gone from strength-to-strength and the people of North Wales have really supported the games, as it is the only chance we have to see first class cricket in the area.”
