MARCHWIEL WREXHAM 132

RUTHIN 133-2

A WINNING away day means that Ruthin are keeping up the pressure near the top of the standings.

The Memorial Park Fields side are looking at the possibility of promotion from Division Two of the North Wales Cricket League this season and last weekend saw them secure a sixth victory of the campaign.

The game at Marchwiel Wrexham was played despite rain in the morning.

It was Marchwiel Wrexham who decided to bat first, but they would soon come to rue this decision as they lost three quick wickets.

Despite some solid middle order knocks, the home side's innings never really got going and they were bowled out for 132 in 36 overs.

For Ruthin, speedster Harry Pooler was the best bowler and he finished up with a 4-21 return from his eight overs.

Fellow fast bowlers Matthew Best and Sion Hughes picked up three and two wickets respectively.

There were catches for Duncan Roberts, Will Jones, Rhodri Edwards and Jamie Hulse.

Nathan Matthews (32) and Ryan Williams (23) were Marchwiel’s main contributors.

Ruthin’s innings started badly after tea, with Rhodri Edwards out without scoring.

Matthew Duckworth was then caught for seven, but that was as good as it got for Marchwiel Wrexham.

Duncan Roberts and Will Jones put together a superb partnership to take the visitors to a 14-1 points triumph.

Roberts was steady throughout, managing five boundaries in his innings of 34 not out.

Jones showed his class with three sixes and seven fours to finish up unbeaten on a sparkling 70, with Ruthin achieving their winning target with nine overs to spare.

On the back of their eight-wicket success, Ruthin move up to second spot in the league standings.
