LLANDYRNOG 4

NANTGLYN 1

A TOP-THREE finish remains in Llandyrnog's sights following a successful Thursday.

Jimmy McNally's charges managed to complete a league double over Nantglyn, although this latest contest avoided the drama of the previous meeting between the teams this season.

At the end of April, Nantglyn were unfortunate not to pick up a point from a 3-2 loss at the hands of Llandyrnog, fighting back after trailing by three goals.

Things were more comfortable this time around for the Cae Nant side, with the 4-1 outcome handing them an eighth win of the season, which moves them to within four points of third-placed Clawddnewydd.

Llandyrnog did have the ball in the net early on, however Craig Jones' header was ruled out for a foul on the visiting keeper.

The home side did take the lead as the first half developed and this goal came from the penalty spot.

David Clayton was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty award, and top scorer Pat Hinchcliffe was on hand to score from the spot.

Llandyrnog weren't about to have things all their own way, though, and a Gwion Bibby free kick from the edge of the area levelled things up.

The hosts then reclaimed the lead courtesy of a powerful header from Craig Jones, before Tom Weyman stretched the advantage further.

Weyman then turned provider to set up Hinchcliffe for his second strike of the evening and an eighth goal of the season.
