YSCEIFIOG 1

CEFN 5

CEFN'S fine week got even better on Thursday night.

Placed as the new leaders after regaining six of their lost points, Alun "Junior" Owen's outfit strengthened their grip on pole position with a 5-1 success at battling Ysceifiog.

This made it a lucky 13 wins from 13 matches this season for Cefn, who now firmly have their eyes on a first Summer League title in four years - and their fourth crown of the decade.

"The lads want to do well this season," said Cefn boss Owen.

"We played well last night - very well - and everyone's up for it.

Two goals in the opening half-an-hour ensured that Cefn took control of the contest prior to the interval.

Top scorer Jake Walker was on hand to give his side the lead in the 12th minute and it was Walker at the double when he netted from the spot after half-an-hour.

That was that as far as the scoring was concerned for pretty much the next 40 minutes.

It was Cefn who broke this drought with a pair of strikes in the space of 60 seconds.

Gwion Owen's goal was the pick of the bunch as he chipped the home keeper with a terrific finish to make it three-nil.

This was swiftly followed by Guto Owen's third goal of the campaign.

Ysceifiog weren't just there to make up the numbers and Sam Scott's effort ensured they pulled a goal back with two minutes remaining.

It was left to Jake Walker to conclude the scoring in the last minute as he completed his fifth hat-trick of the season

"Fair play to Ysceifiog, they were battling well," added Owen.

"Our young lad in goal Iwan Johnson has made one heck of a save for us."

Other impressive figures from the perspective of Cefn were Sam Benbow, David Evans and Owain Roberts.
