A SUCCESSFUL campaign has been marked by young footballers.

Ruthin Town Youth FC recently held three presentation nights.

As usual, the events were enjoyed by all who attended, especially the young footballers!

Last season, the U-12s and U-16s finished fifth in their respective leagues, while the U-13s and U-15s finished fourth.

Meanwhile, Ruthin U-13s Blues secured a very creditable low mid-table finish in their league.

The best finish was third place, which was achieved by the U-14s, who had a strong end to the season.

In the cups, on a glorious Sunday at Llangollen FC saw the U-12s pip Corwen in the final of the Tony Collins Memorial Cup and the U-14s won the Bryan Jones Memorial Cup.

So, all in all, it was another more than satisfactory season.

The perennial cup presented to the club by Arnold (Charlie) Edwards is awarded annually to the U-16 player who is considered to have contributed most over the entire five-year period as a youth player.

This was won by the hugely respected centre back and U-16s' captain Gwern Hughes.

Ruthin Town Youth FC chairman Wynne Davies paid tribute to all the people that contribute so much towards the running of the club in such a professional manner.

Particular tributes were paid to the high degree of efficiency and excellence of treasurer Gareth Griffiths, secretary Llinos Goldston, vice-chairman Richard Goldston and the club safeguarding officer Alwyn Jones.

All the volunteer managers and coaches were thanked for their devotion to duty, which includes attending many courses in addition to managing, coaching and training the respective squads and so many more tasks!

Having given outstanding support in so many different ways for many seasons, hugely deserving U-16 parents Eilir Edwards and Huw McKee were jointly awarded the Owen Roberts Memorial Shield.

Owen Roberts, fondly known as “Mr O” or “Owen bach”, was a founder member of the club 32 years ago.

The memorial shield is presented annually to a committee member, parent or player who has made a significant contribution to the club over a number of years.

The main sponsors were thanked for their tremendous continued long term support, which is hugely appreciated by the club.

This allows the boys to be immaculately turned out, which is something that all at the club are proud to be able to do.

The sponsors are Oshgi, Scanwel, Hill and Roberts accountants, Rubbertech, Blodyn Aur, S P Kell Accountants, Trefor Jones Menswear, The Rotary Club of Ruthin and Steve Matischok.

Recently the club also received a significant donation from the immediate past Mayor of Ruthin Jim Bryan’s charity fund.

Other thanks were given to local referees, particularly Glyn Hughes, Barry Roberts and Eifion Howatson; Brynhyfryd Leisure Centre; Ifor Thomas and chairman Paddy Carney and the senior club for all it’s support; long suffering and hugely supportive parents; and, last but certainly not least, the wives, partners and families who support all the individuals who carry out the demanding front line work on behalf of the club.
