RHEWL 2

CEFN 5

IT'S not rare to see a hat-trick being netted during a Cefn Summer League triumph.

However, it wasn't striker Jake Walker who bagged a treble on Monday evening, but instead midfield maestro Owain Roberts.

The terrific treble at Rhewl led Cefn to win number 16 for the season and they're now just a couple of victories away from claiming their first league crown since 2014.

Spectators were treated to an all-action beginning, with Rhewl's Ian Williams having an early shot saved by visiting number one Iwan Johnson and at the other end, Sam Benbow's snapshot wasn't too far wide.

The league leaders broke the deadlock in the 11th minute.

Jake Walker netted from the spot after David Evans had been fouled in the box.

Gwion Owen and David Evans could have soon doubled Cefn's advantage, but it was Rhewl who struck next to level matters on 21 minutes.

Ian Williams' cross curled in at the far post.

Rhewl were level for just six minutes, though, as Owain Roberts was allowed time to pick out the corner of the net from close range.

Cefn extended their lead 12 minutes after the restart when Owain Roberts' superb 35-yard effort picked out the top corner of the net.

Rhewl were right back in the contest with 20 minutes remaining as Dyfan Lloyd tucked away his ninth goal of a profitable campaign.

The visitors' response to this was clinical, though, and they had the three points wrapped up four minutes later.

Roberts completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute courtesy of an audacious chip from 35 yards.

It was 5-2 just three minutes later with Gwion Owen's strike going into the net via the post.
