Jimmy Armfield was remembered at grounds up and down the country on Saturday.

Armfield, who was diagnosed with cancer for a second time last year, played 627 matches in 17 years for Blackpool – his only club – and was part of Sir Alf Ramsey’s victorious England squad at the 1966 World Cup.

His death at the age of 82 was announced on Monday, and tributes were evident as fixtures took place throughout the land this weekend.

Blackpool’s Sky Bet League One clash with Charlton at Bloomfield Road was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but the pre-match memorial in Armfield’s honour took place as planned, with supporters able to pay their respects to the World Cup winner.
