A BREAK from league action was the story of last week for Denbigh dartists.

Instead, the preliminary stages of the Denbigh and District Darts League's doubles competitions were played.

The ladies' section was played out at the White Lion, with two pairings advancing to finals night in April.

Golden Lion C duo Claire Davies and Karen Coates booked their finals night slot, were they will meet the Hand Inn's Shirley Williams and Bethan Jones.

The men's competition was split over four venues, with one team from each progressing through to the semi-finals.

At the Wings, the strong Golden Lion A team of Dilwyn and Rich Martin advanced with a board final victory over Wingmen Deian Roberts and Gethin Bodden.

Huw Watson and Jamie Dowell took the honours in the Hand Inn quarter, while another Golden Lion pairing - Ryan Finch and Jamie Edwards - conquered the Hope and Anchor sector, with a board final win over Masons men Bryan Lewis and Duncan Edwards.

Experienced duo Steve Gierke and Adie Thomas got through at the Masons in what was a quality evening of darts at that venue.

They booked their semi-final spot with a 2-1 victory over Dave Cooke and Dave Davies in the board final.

They hit a brilliant 15-dart leg to close out proceedings, with Gierke smashing in a 116 finish to end the night.

There were quality darts throughout the evening, with the Cooke / Davies team hitting a 15-dart leg of their own, while Davies hit checkouts of 110 and 109.

Meanwhile, Masons A 'A' have made it through to the Memorial Cup four-a-side final after a 4-0 thrashing of Golden Lion A.

The reigning champions will take on the Hope & Anchor, who defeated Masons A 'B' 4-2, with Jamie Dowell sealing their final berth.
