DENBIGHSHIRE runners had a “morning to remember” after finishing the Denbighshire 5K and 10K event on Sunday.

More than 350 runners lined up at Denbigh Leisure Centre for Bespoke Fitness’ 5K and 10K, said to be amongst the hardest runs in North Wales, with runners having to overcome hilly terrain to cross the finish line.

5K had a hilly start up Ystrad Rd, turning right past Denbigh Mental, down Castle Woods to the back of Denbigh High School.

10K also started up Ystrad, but turned left to the Glyn, then up again towards Prion, back down to Denbigh Mental road, before heading back down Ystrad Road.

There were also more than 40 children who took part in the Kids 1K event around Denbigh Leisure Centre field.

Paul Edwards, event co-organiser, said: “It was great to get the kids involved and encourage them to run.

“There was a lot of parents running too, it was a great family day out.”

The event was a success with a little help from community volunteers, sponsors Denbigh Harriers, and Henllan Bread’s flapjacks re-energising the runners. Competitors were also given chip timing to measure their performance, and medals for the winners.

Winner of the Men’s 10K, Mark Powell, finished with 34.42 mins, a course record.

Below are the top three times for each event:
