IT was ladies first at Moel Lus on Tuesday night in the latest Joe Brown Midweek Fell Series.

Nine Denbigh Harriers raced in Dwygyfylchi and this long-established event is one of the best short fell races, climbing an unrelenting steep 900 foot hill for a mile-and-a-half at the start of the race, followed by a two-mile undulating run down to the finish.

Out of 132 runners Tony Wood was first Harrier home in 24th in 26.54, once again showing his strength on the fells.

Next it was a trio of the club's fastest men, with Vic Belshaw finishing 33th in 28.28, just 13 seconds short of winning his age category.

David Baugh was 49th in 30.52, just managing to hold off Jon Fleming (50th in 31.09).

However, it was all about the ladies, led in by Victoria Whitehead (63rd in 32.41) securing her first prize in the F40 age category.

Emma Collins also secured first prize in her F50 category, finishing 70th in 33.13.

Returning from injury, Sioned Griffiths had a great race to finish 101st in 36.52, hotly pursued by Menai Baugh (102nd in 37.01), who claimed first prize in her F60 age category.

Anwen Brown finished 113th in 39.46 after taking a tumble on the descent.

Also in midweek, Shaun Hughes finished his training for the London Marathon with 13th place at the Chester Spring five-mile race in a time of 27.52.

This leaves him ready to take his place on the elite race starting line this Sunday in London.

There was parkrun tourism again last weekend, with Martin and Vicky Cortvriend continuing their Italian tour at the Palermo parkrun.

Vicky was the first lady home and 16th overall in 34.57, while Martin came 11th in 27.39.

Closer to home, Sarah Bayliss ran her second consecutive personal best at Wepre.

She clocked 27.59 and continues to return even stronger from injury.

At Conwy, Tony Benton was 43rd in 21.52, while Elen Baugh's time in Leeds was 24.51.

Meanwhile, at Bushy Park, Sian Pritchard clocked 27.42.
