TONIGHT is the night as far as Prestatyn Running Club is concerned.

The club is expecting a record haul of awards at the end of the Borders Road-Running League season.

The sixth and final fixture takes place at Deeside tonight (Wednesday, April 25), with the club’s men and women virtually certain of promotion to Division One after consistently strong performances.

In addition, Amie Bagnall looks set to take the senior ladies’ individual title, with Steve Skates and Andrew Bromley among the top-10 places and at least half-a-dozen others are well placed for age-group honours.

This year, only three members were among the 40,000 who lined up for Sunday’s London Marathon, with Arwel Jones finally making the start line after injuries had prevented his participation so often in the past.

He ran a pretty even-paced race to finish in four hours 16 minutes and 27 seconds.

Gareth Bailey slowed down after a nippy opening 5k.

It was a case of hanging on over the last few miles for a 4-44.06 finish.

Jennifer Owens’ aim was to finish comfortably, and she did just that, crossing the line in 5-16.58.

Back in North Wales, James Rodgers did the “double” on Saturday, completing the Penrhyn Parkrun in 21.57 (19th place) and then heading up the road to Llanllechid for the 4.7-mile Moel Wnion fell race.

This event involved 1,772 feet of climbing.

He came home 36th overall in 58.52.

A total of 12 Prestatyn RC members turned out in the Conwy Parkrun, where Steve Skates chalked up another win and two others won their age-groups.

The results were: 1, Steve Skates 18.04; 27, Steve Weedman 21.40 (pb); 30, Sian Beck 21.48 (3rd lady and 2nd L40); 49, Ally Reid 23.37 (1st L45); 108, Roger Harrison-Jones 26.56 (1st M80); 121, Julia Evans 27.45; 127, Sandra Bickerstaff 28.05; 156, Eva Brewer 29.18 (pb); 165, Debbie Weedman 30.08; 227, Suzanne Evans 33.48 (pb); 260, Julie Evans 36.51; 283, Val Jones 41.38.

Alex White was the only Prestatyn representative in the Wepre Parkrun, finishing 126th in 38.54.
