THEY fought the law... and the law won!

In the Llandudno and District Table Tennis League's Handicap Cup semi-finals, Police A played well to preserve the 46-point lead that the handicap had provided against Trinity A.

Mark Pugh beat Abhishek Bathula to 31 points and Ben Moore to 25, before teaming up with Roger Lee to win the doubles 40-25.

While Ben and Matthew Fox both beat James Wan, he was able to accumulate 30 points in each game.

Roger achieved 32 against Abhishek and the gap had closed to 39 points, but the Trinity A juniors conceded the match.

The other semi-final was an all Division Two affair.

Here, Police B were handed a 16-point advantage over Rhyl B and they won three of the first four encounters.

However, a fine John Hughes win, restricting Alan Lavery to 16 points, turned the tables and the gap was down to eight points.

The next three gamers proved decisive, with Rhyl B winning them all, keeping Police B below 19 points to ensuring that they went 58 points clear.

The next two matches went to Rhyl, with Norman Stagg beating Peter Roberts to 37 to ensure a final berth with a game to spare.

In Division One, Amlwch A have landed their 10th consecutive title with two games still to play, while Trefnant-based Trinity A are confirmed as runners-up.

Last week, Amlwch beat third-placed Y Morfa 10-0.

Conwy B finished the season above the relegation zone after beating bottom club Rhyl A 8-2.

Melvyn Booker secured his maximum without dropping a game and Paul Hulme played his best table tennis of the season to win his three.

Dave Foster took Sean Lucas to five and Paul to four, while he teamed up with Barrie Russ to land the doubles.

Barrie earned the other Rhyl point, beating Sean over five games.

In Division Two, Rhyl B are three points above Trinity C at the head of the standings, but they have played one game more than their title rivals.

Last week, they beat Denbigh C 10-0, losing only two games in the process.

Martin Bill took a game from Norman Stagg and Harry Jones won a game from Dave Foster.

John Hughes proved to a be the man of the match, winning all his contests, the closest being a game that went to seven points.
