WHILE the reigning Denbigh and District Summer Darts League champions started their season with a win, they were made to work hard for their opening night victory.

The Wingmen - formerly the Hope & Anchor - toughed out a 5-3 result over a stubborn Golden Lion C outfit, with new signing Rich Martin helping himself to a 180.

The star performer on the evening was Goldie C chucker Rachel Kingdon with her brilliant power scoring having the defending champions in all sorts of trouble.

Railway A kicked off their campaign with a fine 6-2 victory over Masons B, while dark horses Wings A defeated Golden Lion A 5-3.

Turning to the B-league and the Plough drew with the fancied Kinmel Arms.

In a close start to the season, there were further 4-4 results between in the Wings B v Golden Lion B and White Lion A v the Hand Inn matches.

Stuart Barry (White Lion) hit the first ton-plus checkout of the campaign, with a 118 out.

Elsewhere, Railway B recorded a 6-2 win at White Lion B to end the first week of darting action.
