THERE was a family affair for a Vale of Clwyd sporting club recently.

Ruthin Hockey Club organised a family day, giving everyone the chance to take part in a number of activities and to try out their skills.

The event at the club concluded with fun games for the youngsters and their parents.

It was an excellent morning, with the sun shining brightly and it was great to see so many children and parents turning out to take part in the various activities.

Everyone enjoyed the sessions, even the older ones who hadn't picked up a hockey stick since their days at school!

It didn't take them too long to get back into the swing of things.

The parents also had the chance to take part in a walking hockey game to polish off the day.

Thanks from the club go to Sian Jones for arranging the successful morning, in addition to the junior section committee for organising drinks, fruit and refreshments during the event.

Also, thanks go to Richard Hackett for organising the various activities.

Over the course of the season, a great many volunteers were busy giving their time to coach, organise matches, umpire, collect membership fees and organise the paper work, for which the club is extremely grateful.

On average, some 50 children have attended training sessions on Tuesday evenings over the course of the year and it's been great to see the youngsters enjoying themselves, while also developing as hockey players.

At the end of the morning, the presentation event for the various age groups took place.

Award winners:

Years three and four: Player of the season, Lucy Hancock; Most improved, Awen Ellis.

Years five and six: Player of the season, Euan Pettigrew; Most improved, Hugh Higginbotham.

Training sessions for the season have now come to an end, but there's a warm welcome for any prospective players interested in taking up the sport to get in touch with the club.

The club would also like to offer its thanks for financial donations during the season, which went towards purchasing a kit for hockey tournaments for the younger age group.
