RUTHIN 85

COLWYN BAY 0

WHAT a day it turned out to be for Josh Wilson.

The Ruthin winger was in amazing form as he crossed for no fewer than EIGHT tries during his side's thumping weekend WRU League Division One (North) win at home to bottom-of-the-table Colwyn Bay.

Wonderful Wilson contributed almost half of the Blues' 85 points on the day and the home side benefited from a lucky 13 tries on the day, with Nathan Jones converting no fewer than 10 of them.

Despite being a player short and the game starting with uncontested scrums, Colwyn Bay were able to match Ruthin for the first quarter-of-an-hour or so.

They did this by moving the ball around effectively.

Both sides were testing the opposition defence, but there was no score until Ruthin winger Arfon Thomas was fed the ball from a scrum five yards from the visitors’ line and he nipped over for a try, which was converted by fly half Nathan Jones.

After that, the Blues took control and wing Josh Wilson went over for two tries in quick succession.

In a boost for Colwyn Bay, they went up to 15 men and the scrums became contested, but Ruthin’s try scoring continued with another four being bagged before half time.

Prop Tom Crawford crossed the whitewash, as did second row Sion Roberts, while there were also two more tries from Josh Wilson.

Nathan Jones converted five of the seven first half tries and the score at the interval was 45-0 to in Ruthin's favour.

It was a similar story after the break and Ruthin topped the half-century with two quick tries.

These were scored by Nathan Jones and Josh Wilson, and both of them were converted by Jones.

Adding to Colwyn Bay's woes, they then went down to 14 men again on the back of an injury.

Although the visitors never gave up and they played valiantly throgh to the end, they were no match for Ruthin’s scoring power.

The Blues continued on their merry way to go over the whitewash on a further four occasions before the final whistle.

Number eight Alex Pope crossed the whitewash and there were three more tries from Josh Wilson, taking his tally for the afternoon up to eight.

Nathan Jones converted five of the second half tries to claim a match tally of 25 points.

Ruthin can now look forward to a testing encounter at Ystrad Rhondda in the fourth round of the WRU Plate.
