DINBYCH 101

LLANIDLOES 7

THINGS are just champion over at Caeau Les Phillips!

Dinbych clinched the WRU League Division Two (North) title with an emphatic and clinical 15-try demolition of a game Llanidloes side, who gave a spirited performance in a hopeless task.

The visitors were up against it from the start as they arrived a man short and then they had to resort to non-contested scrums.

The chief executioners for the hosts were full back Gruff Roberts and right wing Aidyn Jones, who scored four tries apiece, while centre Tom Seddon crossed for a hat-trick.

Further tries were scored by centre Owain Davies, scrum half Garin Roberts, lock James Fisher-Jones and outside half Dan O'Sullivan, who also kicked a lucky 13 conversions for a match total of 31 points.

Yet, this was no one-way encounter, as Llanidloes managed to retain possession through multiple phases with good support play by both forwards and backs and on several occasions, they threatened the Dinbych line.

Unfortunately for Llanidloes, whenever they lost possession to the aggressive Dinbych defence, the speed of the home counter attacks led to the majority of their tries being scored from long distances.

Playing against a strong breeze, Dinbych started with a bang and they scored in the first minute.

After regathering their kick-off, slick handling resulted in Gruff Roberts going over for the first try.

Tom Seddon added a second score two minutes later with a solo break from near halfway following a scrum.

Llanidloes reacted positively to take play to the Dinbych line, where only excellent defence by the hosts repulsed wave after wave of short drives to the line.

When the visitors eventually spilled up possession, swift handling released Aidyn Jones on a length of the field run for Dinbych's third try.

This was repeated minutes later in a similar manner, with Gruff Roberts scoring his second after another run from his own line.

Lock James Fisher-Jones then showed his excellent support play and pace as he ran in to score to finish off another long distance counter attack by Aidyn Jones and Gruff Roberts.

Aidyn Jones completed his hat-trick with a brace of quick tries, the second following good work by Andrew Wilson from the opposite wing. Scrum half Garin Roberts closed the first half scoring with a solo effort after taking a quick tap penalty 20 metres out.

Dan O'Sullivan converted all eight tries in a faultless display of goal kicking.

Leading by 56 points at the interval, Dinbych added to their total early in the second half with two tries by Gruff Roberts.

The first came after an initial surge by James Fisher-Jones and the second following a long break by Tom Seddon.

Dan O'Sullivan converted both of these before Llanidloes mounted a sustained period of pressure near the Dinbych line, which was again met by a staunch defensive effort by the hosts.

Eventually, the visitors did manage to breach the defence with inside centre Paul Jehu going over for a try, converted by outside half Adam Price.

This only proved to be temporary blip for Dinbych, with normal service restored courtesy of Aidyn Jones' fourth try and Tom Seddon's second score, after a break by Dan O'Sullivan.

The outside half added both conversions, but then surprisingly failed to convert his own solo try following a break from halfway.

Owain Davies then cut through for a try from just outside the Llanidloes 22 after slick handling following a maul by replacement scrum half Jordan Wynne.

Tom Seddon went over for his hat-trick try after good work by replacement number eight Chris Forshaw, with the conversion by Dan O'Sullivan taking the hosts over the 100 point mark to close the scoring with the last kick of the match.
