FORMER DENBIGH Town captain Tim Bowker will represent Wales at this year’s Veterans World Cup.

Bowker, who captained the club some four decades ago, was lived in Nantglyn and is now based in South Wales.

He took the reigns of the Wales over-75s in November and is now tasked with whittling down his squad ahead of this year’s World Cup.

Still playing, he currently competes in the Wales Veterans Football League for both Cardiff Academicals and Barry Town Vets.

He recently gave an interview to the BBC, in which he said: "At any age, to play in a World Cup, OK we're not playing Pele and Bobby Moore, but you're still representing your country, it's great.

"The philosophy is if we score more goals than the opposition, we win the game.

"Nobody's interested in a nil-nil draw, attack is the way forward."

Bowker also represents the national team himself as a player for the over-65s and will be busy come the summer when the tournament comes around.

The tournament is being held in Cardiff for the first time, with Wales' opposition including the likes of Norway, Germany, Denmark and the United States.

A Denbigh Town spokesperson said: "We wish Tim and the squad all the best this summer and eagerly await their results."
