A PUB in Llangollen has been recognised for its fundraising efforts at an awards ceremony.

The Sun Trevor won the community fundraising hero prize for Wales at the PubAid Community Pub Hero awards 2024.

Landlord and landlady, Paul and Katy Jones, along with their MP, Simon Baynes, were at the ceremony in the Houses of Commons to accept the award.

The award celebrates the work that the pub does for fundraising in the community.

Judges focused on the unique and innovative ways in which the pub fundraised, rather than the amount of money they raised.

The pub saw off competition from more than 1,000 entries nationwide for the prestigious pub industry awards, now in its fifth year.

It won because their pub quiz, held weekly for the last eight years, raised an enormous amount for Nightingale House Hospice, a charity supporting patients suffering from progressive or life-limiting illnesses.

Katy said: “It's a fantastic thing to be acknowledged for this award. Our weekly quiz has the backing of the local community and it's great to have won an award for it.

“It’s been fantastic to be invited to the awards ceremony and being shown around the Houses of Parliament.”

Simon Baynes, Clwyd South MP, added: “I am delighted that the Sun Trevor has won tonight. They thoroughly deserve it.

“They’ve raised £27,500 for the Nightingale House Hospice through their quizzes over the last nine years which is an incredibly impressive record.

“They are real community heroes in our area of Clwyd South, and in the Llangollen area. I am delighted that they are the winners tonight.”
