A LAST minute effort denied Bala Town the chance to pick up a point at Cymru Premier League leaders The New Saints.

Ryan Astles' volley in the 89th minute saw Craig Harrison's side through to a 2-1 triumph in Monday's rearranged encounter.

Dan Williams went close for the Saints after a quarter-of-an-hour, while Nathan Burke was just off target with Bala's first opportunity.

The Saints took the lead in the 28th minute.

Leo Smith had rattled the crossbar, but the ball was kept alive and Ryan Brobbel curled a shot beyond Alex Ramsay.

Within two minutes, the Lakesiders were level.

The ball bounced loose inside the home box and Nathan Peate turned it home from close range.

It looked like both sides would pick up a point, until Ryan Astles fired home an 89th minute volley inside the six-yard box.

One further chance went Bala's way after this, with Ollie Shannon's effort being saved by Connor Roberts.

On Saturday, Bala will play host to Cardiff Met.

The New Saints will win the league on Friday if they avoid defeat at second-placed Connah's Quay Nomads.
