ST ASAPH have opened their North Wales Cricket League Premier Division season in winning fashion.

The Saints, who finished as runners-up last time out, opened their tilt with a comfortable 85-run triumph at Northop.

Making first use of the batting track at Northop, St Asaph were bowled out for 202 in the 50th over of their innings.

Opener Mathew Ryan (54) and Nathanael Scott (50) opened the season in decent fashion, compiling a second wicket stand of 126.

Duncan Midgley finished up unbeaten on 30, but no other batsman managed to reach double figures.

Mark Poynton (4-36) was the pick of the Northop attack.

The hosts were given a revised target of 188 when it was their turn to bat, but they were eventually bowled out for just 102.

Matthew Williams' unbeaten knock of 34 was the leading contribution, as all of the St Asaph bowlers were among the wickets.

Leading the way was Ajaypal Singh's 3-22 return, while he was backed up by Gareth Goodson (2-22), Dan Evans (2-23) and Jack Griffiths (2-17).

There was also a wicket for Danny Ryan.
