A THRILLING jig to point where the worlds of traditional and contemporary folk meet sets off from Trelawnyd in February.

Musical titan trio Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle will bring together their prodigious talents - and a musical partnership a quarter of a century in the making - at the folk hotspot's Memorial Hall on February 23.

The three piece first crossed paths as teenagers, before solidifying their collaborative efforts at BBC’s annual Transatlantic Sessions in 2007, and now are set to celebrate their friendship and musical kinship at Folk at the Hall in a whirl of jigs, reels, ballads and more.

Master of flutes, whistles and Uillean pipes McGoldrick, of Manchester, has toured with Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler, as well as with The Afro Celts, RTE Orchestra and Kate Rusby and was named BBC Radio 2 folk Musican of the year in 2006, fdor which he was again nominated this year and has just completed his first soundtrack for TG4 and the Smithsonian channel.

Glaswegian fiifle player McCusker’s unique playing also earned him a spot with the legendary band that toured with both Dylan and Knopfler. Renowned for his skill at transcending musical boundaries he has worked with artists ranging from Paulo Nutini and Jools Holland to Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash and has recorded with Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene to name but a few.

Completing the line up of friends is Dublin's Doyle, whose gifts as guitarist, songwriter and vocalist have played an essential role in the ongoing renaissance of Irish traditional music and was the recent musical director for Joan Baez, touring with her for two years.

Far from being the set-up to a well worn joke, the Englishman Irishman and Scotsman forged a musical unit truly greater than the sum of its parts and are a must see at Trelawnyd Memorial Hall on Saturday, February 23 at 7pm.

Tickets are £15, available by clicking here.
