MUSIC fans in Bangor and Caernarfon can help celebrate the fourth annual Welsh Language Music Day- Dydd Miwsig Cymru.

Friday February 8 is the official date with free gigs organised around this date to mark the event.

You don’t need to understand any Welsh to get into it.

There's incredible indie, rock, punk, funk, folk, electronica, and hip hop being made in the Welsh language.

Last year, thousands of people of all ages experienced live Welsh music at events across the country and as far afield as Budapest and Brooklyn.

Since then, for the first time a song made in the Welsh language has been listened to over two million times on steaming service Spotify; ‘Gwenwyn’ by rock duo Alffa consisting of Dion Jones and Sion Land from Gwynedd- on the Recordiau Côsh Records label.

Dydd Miwsig Cymru is a part of the long-term vision for growing the number of Welsh speakers to one million by 2050. 74 per cent of non-Welsh speakers involved in February’s events said they’d like to learn more of the language as a result of engaging with Welsh language music through Dydd Miwsig Cymru.

Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, Welsh Language Music Day ambassador, said: “You might be into guitars or grime, hip hop or harmonies, squeaky beats or big singalongs, but whatever gets you grooving, there’s Welshlanguage music you’ll listen to and fall in love with from the first note. Put February 8th 2019 in your calendar. It’s a day that champions some incredible music being made in the Welsh language. Wherever you are in Wales, we’ve got live shows all over the country on the big day.”
