VISITORS to National Trust special places across north west Wales will have a spring in their step with the amount of adventures to be had over May half term.

From children’s gardening week activities at Penrhyn Castle to wild adventures at Plas Newydd House, there is plenty of family fun to make the most of the school holiday.

At Plas Newydd House and Garden, on Anglesey, there is a Spring Garden; A Sense of Adventure event from 11am - 4.30pm, from May 13 - 31.

As the garden springs to life, join a series of activities at various locations around the garden. Designed to be a feast for all the senses, whether you're planting a seed to take home or thinking like a squirrel in the tree house, it's the perfect opportunity to have a new perspective on nature.

Red Squirrel Walks and Talks are also on from 11:30am – 2.15, May 14 until November, 3. Venture into the woods with Volunteer Red Squirrel Rangers to learn more about these amazing creatures and how they are cared for. Learn all about their habitat, the food they like and how they were re-introduced to Plas Newydd 11 years ago.

Woodland Wednesdays: Wild Picnic are from May 29, 11am – 4pm. Family fun activities are led by the team from Wild Elements. Get creative and make your own fruit creature and a wild seed bomb. You can even have a go at making some 'damper' bread on an open fire.

At Penrhyn Castle, in Bangor, there is a Summer Garden Trail, from

25 May – 1 September, 10:30am – 4pm. Touch, smell listen and smell your way around the garden on a fun trail through the amazing world of trees. A Children’s Gardening Week is on from May 25 – 2 June, 10.30am – 5pm. There are activities all well long for you to get those little green fingers working, including paper plant pot making, sunflower planting, sensory summer garden trail, gardeners potting shed quiz and an indoor castle quiz (perfect for when the weather turns!)

At Porth y Swnt, Pwllheli, from May 28, 12pm - 4pm, activities vary each week during the school holidays. Try bug hunting, creating wild art, making kites, river dipping and lots more.
