AN IMPOSING 34 meter structure is gearing up to take "pride of place" with the Rhyl Sky Tower in lighting up North Wales coastline.

Towyn's Tir Prince Fun Park reopened for the season today - Saturday, March 14 - with the first guests taking to the giant Ferris wheel, which will run at the park as temporary attraction through the Easter holidays until May and possibly into the summer.

The attraction will appear in the town after a stint at the Cardiff Winter Wonderland, and was brought to the UK last year Charles Holden, who owns the fairground located at the Tir Prince site. To bring it from Cardiff to Towyn the large structure had to be carried in transported on four "very large" articulated lorries and trailer.

A spokesperson for the Tir Prince fun park said: “After the Cardiff event, our Fun Park team transported it back to North Wales, where it will now take pride of place this Easter onsite at Tir Prince.

“Over the years the fun park has progressed no end, we try very hard to keep it affordable and try to offer one of the best family days out on the North Wales coast. This is a great attraction for Towyn and we hope will add value to the area.

"We love Towyn and want to make it a special place for all to visit."

The observation wheel ride features 24 gondolas seating six people in each , and will offer views across the coastline and the other attractions in the area.

The ride also offers disabled access with a kind wheel chair friendly car. The team are considering the wheel becoming a permanent fixture in the county.

Towyn and Kinmel Bay mayor, Cllr Morris Jones, said: " The wheel looks absolutely fantastic - you can see it for miles.

"I think it will be another big asset to the Fun Park and bring more people to Towyn."
