NOW firmly established as one of the most popular working artists in North Wales, sell-out landscape painter David Grosvenor makes a welcome return to Ffin y Parc Gallery this month with a major solo show.
The exhibition, which takes place from Sunday, September 13 until Wednesday, October 7, also features new works by wood sculptors John and Marilyn Davies.
David has been exhibiting with the award-winning Ffin y Parc gallery since 2011 and has produced over 100 new works in oil, as well as watercolour, ranging from lockdown-inspired pieces, travels abroad through to his highly collectable local landscapes of North Wales.
Of his work, Criccieth-based artist David said: “I have followed in the footsteps of many nineteenth and early twentieth century artists and have included a number of watercolours and oils from my travels during 2019 in Georgia (in the Causasus) and Uzbekistan, both amazing trips.”
He added: “I have also included few examples of paintings done during lockdown of the leafy lanes around Criccieth.”
Gallery owner Ralph Sanders added: “David’s love of landscape is absolutely passionate; he lets them speak for themselves. The vigor and bold use of colour are always present, yet there is also a fascinating subtlety in the work.”
David was born in 1956 and moved to North Wales in 1991 to paint full-time. His paintings appear in public and private collections world-wide.
Also exhibiting are Prestatyn based husband and wife team John and Marilyn Davies, with a new collection of their unique hand-carved and painted wooden bird sculptures. This is their second show at the gallery.
Ralph explained: “John and Marilyn have been working together since 1974, developing their combined technique, refining their separate but complementary skills.”
He added: “The nearby River Clwyd is vital to their work as it supplies the driftwood for the birds’ perches. Back at the workshop, John uses a knife for carving the birds, keeping power tools to a minimum, then Marilyn burns the feather barbs on before painting, which as you can imagine can all take a long time!”
