MEMBERS of a charity-led men's group have been left devastated after thieves stole hundreds of pounds worth of their tools.

Gardening and wood-working equipment belonging to the Men’s Sheds project in Love Lane, Denbigh, were reported stolen on Tuesday, August 18 after a suspected break in on August 15.

The project, run by Vale of Clwyd Mind, provides ‘time out’ and social activities for men who suffer from depression or, through life circumstances, are lonely and need support.

Philip Williams, director of Vale of Clwyd Mind which is based in Denbigh, said hundreds of pounds worth of damage had also been caused and described the incident as ‘reprehensible’, particularly after the project had been damaged twice in recent weeks.

He said: “This is a mean and despicable crime against the area’s most vulnerable people who are working hard to improve their own and other people’s lives.

“This project is run on grants and it will be very difficult to replace the tools. However, it is not just about the money but the effect it has on those who attend Men’s Sheds. For many of them it is a lifeline.

“I cannot stress enough how upset our members are that the thieves returned and took all the equipment. It means that members can’t carry out the work they had planned, or learn the new skills which they enjoy so much and which will contribute to their future lives.”

Members of the shed meet once a week to garden, do odd jobs and learn DIY and craft skills. They also cook and enjoy a meal together, socialise and carry out projects to benefit the local community.

A North Wales Police spokesperson confirmed that a call was received on Tuesday, August 18, reporting a number of tools stolen from the shed on Saturday, August 15 and that entry had been forced.

Officers attended the scene and house to house enquiries were made.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who has information about the incident can call Police on 101 quoting reference number S125348, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
