THERE'S been a double celebration over at Maes Tegid.

Bala Town were last week delighted to reveal that team boss Colin Caton and captain Chris Venables had scooped up J D Welsh Premier League awards for December.

After receiving votes from the public and the members of the selection panel, Caton and Venables have won the December manager and player of the month awards respectively.

Unbeaten in four games during December, Caton saw his side claim wins against Cardiff Met, Cefn Druids and Prestatyn Town twice to secure Bala’s spot in the top-six of the league during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Venables was instrumental to the Town squad during December, scoring two crucial late winning goals against Cardiff Met and Prestatyn, and supplying excellent performances to boot.

Colin Caton told the Bala Town website: “As always, the praise has to go to the players.

"The last nine or 10 weeks have put us in a great position, but we need to kick on and be more consistent for the remainder of the season.

"The next 10 games are crucial and I hope to pick up a couple more manager of the month awards before the end of the season as it would mean we will have had a successful season!”

Venables added “It’s always pleasing to get individual recognition, but I think it’s more a reflection on how we’ve played as a team and during December, the lads have been superb.”
