After receiving a grant of £120,000 from the Welsh Government in order to renovate Bro Tegid Library in Bala, Gwynedd Council’s Library Service has reopened at its original site in Ysgol y Berwyn, following a temporary move to Penllyn Leisure Centre whilst work was being carried out at the library in the school.

A number of events will be held over half term for children and adults to officially launch the reopening.

A ‘colour and relax’ session for adults – an opportunity to socialise whilst colouring in an informal setting will be held on Tuesday, February 13 between 11 and midday, followed by ‘Murder in the Library’ – an afternoon with crime writers Myfanwy Alexander and John Alwyn Griffith between 2pm and 4pm including a cup of tea and refreshments.

There are also activities for children, with a competition to draw a picture of ‘Tegi’, an afternoon of ‘Wild Elements’ on Friday, February 16 between 2pm and 4pm and a Family Fun morning on Saturday, February 17 between 10am and 12pm. All of the events are free of charge and there is no need for prior booking.

Councillor Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member who leads on Libraries said:

“Following a generous grant of £120,000 from the Welsh Government, the improvements that have been made to the library including the provision of a flexible room for library activities and a more appealing children's section.

“Since the library is on the site of the new learning campus which will be opening soon, it will serve as communal hub for the town, where people and children can congregate for events that will be held there.

“I’d like to thank the library users for their cooperation during the refurbishing period. The updated library will offer better provision, and create a friendly and welcoming resource for every user.”

The library also offers a vast selection of books to be loaned for all ages, as well as free advice and information. There are also 4 computers available with help to show you how to access the internet, free wi-fi ac e-resources such as e-books, e-magazines and e-comics.
