BEFORE the expected closure of Denbigh Community College this summer, all those that have fond memories of the college will have an opportunity to say goodbye.

Students and staff have organised a ‘grand finale’ concert to celebrate the college and sing farewell, with a line-up that includes a traditional brass band, the Denbigh High School Vocal Ensemble, Resurgence, and concert headliners indie-rock band CRY.

Jacob Tudor-Jones, first-year student of music technology, who started a petition against the college’s closure that received over 2,000 signatures, has led organisation of the concert. Mr Jones said: “At present, Denbigh as a community is at breaking point. There's been a spike in crime and vandalism, the recent fire and of course the college being closed.

“Denbigh has had more than it's fair share of bad times of late so we just want to provide this amazing and diverse community a concert to bring them all together.”

The concert will be in aid of the Love Hope Strength Foundation, a charity that supports people with cancer and leukaemia.

Mr Jones said: Mr Jones said: “As a class, we have worked extremely hard to organise this concert - and there is still an awful lot to do. We would like to thank the community for their support so far.

“I think that there'll be an awful lot of emotion at the concert, especially from college staff. This may well be the last time they'll all be together.”

A spokesperson for Coleg Llandrillo said: “We wish our Music Technology students success in their forthcoming charitable concert which is raising funds for a worthy cause, the Love Hope Strength Foundation.”

The concert will take place at Denbigh Community College, starting at 6.30pm on Friday, May 25.

Over 300 tickets are available to purchase online, from reception, or on the door on the day, with VIP tickets, general admission, general seating, tables and balcony seats available.

The concert is also currently looking for raffle prize donations and business sponsors to help cover the cost of the event.
